Harry Manx has been called an "essential
link" between the music of East and West, creating musical
short stories that wed the tradition of the Blues with the depth
of classical Indian ragas. He has created a unique sound that
is hard to forget and deliciously addictive to listen to.
Playing
the Mohan Veena, lap steel, harmonica and banjo, Manx quickly
envelops the audience into what has been dubbed "the Harry
Zone" with his warm vocals and the hauntingly beautiful
melodies of his original songs. "The live performances have
become the most exciting part of the music business for me," Harry
says. "And it's not only the playing; it's all the other
magic that happens between myself and the audience. My goal has
always been to draw the audience as deep as possible into the
music."
A successful touring performer, Manx has brought
his "breathtaking" solo shows across his native Canada,
into the USA, Australia, France and most recently to Singapore
and Spain. He has appeared at many prestigious festivals, world-
class theatres, concert halls and infamous Blues clubs around
the globe.
Blending Indian folk melodies with blues, a sprinkle
of gospel, and compelling grooves, Manx's "mysticssippi" flavour
is hard to resist, easy to digest and keeps audiences coming
back for more.
"While most musicians are content to
work within the accepted boundaries of their chosen style, lap-slide
guitarist Harry Manx likes to color way outside the lines. His
crayons? Soulful, raspy vocals, poetic lyrics, and the whining
drones and mysterious melisma of Indian music. In addition to
picking Hawaiian-style flat-top, Manx plays the mohan veena -
a 20-string archtop… Drawing from blues, ragas, and the
story-telling heritage of British Isles folk music, Manx conjures
songs that are as bewitching as they are unique." - Guitar
Player
"Harry Manx is the master of your chilled-out oriental
vibe, thanks to his proficiency on instruments like the mohan
veena; and that smoky voice of his is akin to getting a relaxing
massage without skin contact." - JazzReview.com
"Manx's
warm yet gravelly voice never gets tiring." "Manx
has been quick to establish himself as a unique roots and blues
musician with considerable range." - Exclaim! Magazine
"...
vocalist and guitar player extraordinaire Harry Manx… brought
the new meaning of eclectic, earthy, blues sound to the Piermont
bastion of musical greats ... but even more impressive to the
listener is his guitar playing ... His fingers, like magic, were
strumming and beating, creating tones which you would expect
from a three or four piece band." - Rockland County Times
