Walker
T. Ryan started playing guitar when he was thirteen, quickly
showing an interest and affinity for the blues. He plays
rhythm driven
blues guitar, Texas, Delta, originals, straight and slide -- from
Mississippi guitar trance music to Mississippi John Hurt Saturday night
fish-fry finger picking.
Ryan learned from the masters, including Lightnin Hopkins,
Son
House, Fred McDowell, John Hurt, Dave Van Ronk, Hubert Smith and others.
Ryan is a keeper of the flame in the history of the blues.
His songs and the songs he chooses, the threads of music and feeling he
weaves together draw on the astonishing wealth of music created in the
name of, or affected by, the blues. He is a song writer and a
storyteller.
"Walker T. Ryan is a powerful purveyor of the blues. His
recreations of blues classics, obscure, blues and his originals add up
to one of the most seasoned, talented performers on the West Coast." Mike Myers
